Many years I have been hiking and scrambling in and around the hills and mountains of the UK. I run a small walking group which meets regularly. I am trying to make a dent in the munro list!! I just enjoy being outdoors when ever I can :)

What type of mosquito repellent is most effective? By the way I tested this out in April, in the south of Vietnam, and it is reasonably effective, in the sense that in particular bad areas it is similar to other products and has limited scope to repel. I personally prefer to use something like this because of my eczema. |

What clothing would be appropriate for hiking in -18°C with up to 30 km/hr wind? I think this is a good question - please explain why this should be closed as "Not Constructive"? |

What are the advantages / disadvantages of a rock climbing hat made from hard plastic to one made out of carbon fiber? I was really looking for an answer detailing advantages and disadvantages from specific personal experience. |

What type of mosquito repellent is most effective? It is difficult to find any independent review as it is a relatively new product and is marketed really for midges and ticks in Scotland. Gearweare (gearweare.com/review/smidge) have a review of the product but they do not go into effectiveness specifically on mosquitoes. There are a few forum posts as well. I'll let you know how effective it is! |

Is there a definitive list of the tallest mountains in the world that require little or no mountaineering experience? True Scotland mountains are at a lower altitude.. but in Winter trust me they can be quite a bit fun :) I know for a fact that you can hike to the top of Aconcagua in the Andes which is at 6962m! although I suspect a significant amount of altitude training would be needed.. |

What are the downsides to sleeping in a hammock on a multi-day hike? Trust me you wouldn't want to sleep in a hammock in some of the UK wild areas.. |

Where can I find information on letterboxing in my area? I agree with @TimothyStrimple - why replicate the information here if this captures what he is asking for? |
