@Karen the OP was asking about a piece of equipment that he specifically uses in the outdoors that's been useful to him for years. In my experience, not everything that goes into the great outdoors on an expedition was expressly made or intended to be used in the outdoors (is not "official" outdoors gear). He's Googled and done the research he can. This question reflects his effort to: a.) categorize, and b.) replace a trusted piece of his outdoors kit.

Long, long after the fact follow-up: At least for the time being, I have resorted to using a system of pads and multiple quart- and gallon-ziploc bags. Only been out a few nights at a time this way, but it has worked so far, even in bear country (at the GA/TN border in the Cohuttas).
