Personally I find StackOverflow to be good for personal development. We should all spend some time trying to debug code without a compiler now and then.

(2) the fox walk is what we always used for stalking game. It's interesting to learn that it is also good for avoiding blisters. Thanks!

Revisiting this. I have to say that any advice that involves sleeping with damp clothes against the body is suspect.

I've added xpda's comment to this answer and upvoted his comment. I think the combination of those two methods is the ideal solution.

Good advice on the butcher! And yeah, definitely a no on the grinding. Sous vide seems like a good option and we know someone who has one of those. Hadn't really thought of that before.

I'm OK with dried/smoked, but fresh tastes better, IMO :)

As a note, if you have a PLB, you can buy pretty cheap insurance that will cover the $5000 in a real emergency.

comment What is the most efficient food to take a for a 12-15 day hiking trip?
@victoriah -- That would be awesome and I wish I could. Last I read there is no place in the US that does not have a potential for Giardia. Domesticated animals, including the increased popularity of hiking with dogs, over the entire US has spread this protozoa to virtually every stream in the continental US. Now that's not to say that you can't get lucky in the US drinking untreated water, just that it's not a good idea here.

comment Backpacking or hiking in areas open to hunting
I totally agree with the functional aspect of turkey hunting versus deer hunting. I generally worry about people hunting deer more because deer attract a much larger variety of hunters. Turkey hunters tend to be more experienced hunters (as a general rule).
