Personally I find StackOverflow to be good for personal development. We should all spend some time trying to debug code without a compiler now and then.

In the spirit of improving the beta, can those who voted to close, please open a post in meta explaining why this is a bad question for TGO?

comment How can you navigate / determine your location in thick fog?
This appears predicated on knowing already the direction. If I am lost in a fog and how can I determine the direction of the wind (ie, easterly) without already knowing the direction (at which point, why would I need to wind to give direction?). Please explain more how this method could be used.

@Ryley -- The wrong king of shoes get very heavy and will drag you down.

comment How to find objective reviews of outdoors gear?
I love this answer. I was ready to type up my own answer on what I do, but this is awesome! Scientific testing would be a great thing.

@LBell -- No worries. I'll look into some more myself as well.

comment what are the differences between high-end sleeping pads and cut to fit foam mats
The higher end pads have both now. Inflation and a foam layer.

comment Are there performance differences between lead and lead-free ammunition?
Not sure I like the closing of this. The more I watch this and other hunting questions I see a trend of "we don't want you, go away". Hunters share a lot of outdoor crossover activities with many other groups. IMO -- ideological objects should be "left at the door" voting on questions. Our PRIMARY concern in beta should be question quality and topic appropriateness.

LBell, when were those recommendations last updated? I ask because last I knew, extractors in general were not, but the sawyer in particular was. In either case I'd love to read an update if you have a link to share :)

comment Does hiking with a dog in bear country increase or decrease your risk of a bear encounter?
I'm pretty torn on this answer. You appear to be contradicting yourself, saying both that you wouldn't recommend it but it might be alright, and that it would be a slight benefit and probably a good thing. I think this needs some work to be more clear about exactly what you are saying.
