Personally I find StackOverflow to be good for personal development. We should all spend some time trying to debug code without a compiler now and then.

comment Is it better to camp in a disturbed area, or pick a new spot and let the first rest?
You move leaves to put your tent down ? O.o (+1 though, good answer, just surprised me with the leaves bit)

comment Resources for finding public hunting land
Do you want "public" as in government owned, or do you also want private landowners who are publicly looking for someone to come hunt their land?

comment How should I remove a tick?
+1 for using a loop, but the medical attention part is overkill. It's really not necessary to see a doctor unless you are symptomatic for a tickborn disease.

I can say that I've tried it and when I did, it didn't work.

Could you add some reasons why it's worth the $40? "go for it" doesn't really explain much ;)

comment What are some alternative ways of fishing - i.e. catching fish?
The weir is a great way to go. I've actually used this successfully. It's easy to do and can be done even without blocking the whole stream (as in the picture).

comment What should you do if you are bitten by a rattlesnake?
Rattlesnake venom (for most species) contains neurotoxin, while Water Mocassin does not. Copper heads are much more likely to dry bite (bite without injecting venom) than rattlesnakes. That being said, the treatment is the same for the four major north american vipers.

What kind of rattlesnakes are you normally around? I'm curious if there's a difference by area or species. I'm in the southeast and the timber and diamondbacks here usually flee if possible.

comment What are essential items in an emergency kit?
@HartleyBrody -- You make another excellent point about "out with others". If you're in a camp with people and you have a whistle, being stranded without your main gear is less likely.

@HartleyBrody -- I agree that no solution is perfect. Every person has to tailor it to their own skills, location, and price range (for instance, having two of some of these things is expensive). My main reason for not listing the sleeping bag is that it's just not feasible to keep it on my at all times. A small pot is a great addition that I think I will add to mine. My snow peak pot is so minimal that it will fit great and perhaps even become the shell I pack all this in.
