comment How should I patch holes in a waterproof/breathable jacket?
@Sue I don't think that's necessary. For the curious, in the end I gave my tent to a professional and had it fix. Pretty pricey, but I no longer had time to do it myself :( At least he did a very good job :)

@Sue I can no longer find the glue I linked to... Sorry, but I'll just have to remove the link. If I remember correctly, I was referring to the same kind of glue you find in tent-repair kits, and the same kind of patch as well. It didn't work too well for me after all though. The instructions said to do it in the sunshine to help the glue dry faster, but I had serious sun and it dried so fast I didn't manage to put it on straight and it was a disaster :p

comment How to tell the time at night
@BenCrowell hehe, indeed, the sun, moon, planets and stars are all "synchronized"; their movement is regular, predictable and correlated with each other. What I meant was that the position of the moon in the sky relative to the position of the sun in the sky (best indicator of time) changes every day. Therefore, any calculation using the moon to determine the time also needs to take into account the date and year. This makes calculations quite difficult without a reference chart.

comment What is the most efficient food to take a for a 12-15 day hiking trip?
@JimBeam Oh please. I'm not suggesting 15 days of it. Plus, creativity is not the target here. A correct answer is worth more than a creative one. If you want to critique my answer, say that is it incomplete, that it should mention more than one option. Or say that it doesn't answer the original question. I agree that his is not the best answer, but I think your comment is much worse than my answer is.

@RussellSteen Yes, but why does that temperature range encourage growth more than higher temperatures?

@RussellSteen : Out of curiosity, what makes that spot so sweet to the bacteria?

comment What's the name of the old cross country ski boots with three holes at the front?
Exactly what I was looking for! Is there additionnal terminology which could refer specifically to the lighter, low rising, "soft" kind? (as opposed to the heavy duty "hard-shelled" version)
