comment How to warm up your cold toes and fingers?
"Hold your arms down by your side with your hands extended sideways at 90 degree angles to your arms. Vigorously shrug up and down rapidly. (Weird - but works wonders)" -- When I was shown this one I thought I was being put on, but it actually works.

comment What is a typical elongation of a dynamic climbing rope?
Good commentary. +1 One point: elasticity and peak impact force are not directly correlated (inversely); you can find ropes that have moderate stretch yet have a "soft catch." I presume this is done by having a flatter force curve. Also, you might consider adding something about a dynamic belay as it is very relevant.

Nice writeup. One thing: I believe the YDS originally topped at 5.9. Would you check your sources?

comment outdoor reading - are there any outdoorsy comics?
I could have brainstormed for weeks to list questions that might be asked on this site, and I wouldn't have come up with that one.

I don't see how an atlatl is applicable to hunting "rabbits [and] pidgeon" as the OP requests. What support do you have for this position?

comment Why don't we apply the principles of layering when it comes to pants?
This seems well reasoned. If you have any references for these points it would be nice to add them.

@Łukasz I think by "can't take it to the same level" he means strip down completely.

I tried to learn to use a sling as a kid (you know, like David!) and let me tell you it's incredibly difficult. I'm giving a +1 for hand-thrown net as it triggered a memory of seeing (video) of that used very effectively for birds.

@Marcus Yes, please do be responsible about not maiming a bunch of critters when lacking either the accuracy or power for a clean kill.

@Marcus By the way I would consider 00 or 000 buckshot for hunting, which should be pretty hard, though please remember I've not done this myself.

@Marcus That depends on both the lead and the target. Very soft lead (think fishing sinkers) hitting a hard target will surely deform at slingshot-attainable velocity (which is why they don't bounce much); on the other hand I'd expect that hard-cast antimony lead hitting wood or bone would not appreciably deform at any velocity you could achieve.
