comment Should you avoid handling lambs?
Since the lamb was already following you, I think the risk that touching it would cause it to follow you is a bit of a moot point.

comment The re-hydration time for deydrated foods
It's the backbone of my backcountry spaghetti sauce (saute fresh onions and garlic, then add water, tomato leather, dehydrated tomato, mushroom, and cooked ground beef - simmer about 30 min then set aside wrapped in a towel while you use the stove to cook the pasta. Grate a little parmesan onto each serving. A similar approach for my chili. As well, a small bit of the leather will improve many sauces by adding a little umami and body.

can you clarify whether an "uphill hiker" means someone who is going uphill, or someone who is uphill of you?

comment Are bears attracted by Lotions and Perfumes?
The claim is not just the sealed containers of toothpaste, lotion etc, but the scent of them on your hair, skin, or breath will bring bears to your campsite or into your tent. My position is that this is ridiculous, like the "women attract bears" advice that preceded it historically.

comment When should you carry a firearm when hiking/trekking?
@JimBeam "assuming the right training" - that person wouldn't be asking. See the first sentence and last paragraph of my answer.

comment What's the difference between white gas, propane, kerosene, and gasoline?
Typical Canada uses the US words for some but not all, we definitely have "Coleman fuel" which I burn in my Whisperlite.

comment What is involved in taking a canoe through a lock on a major US River?
Not saying it's hard - it probably isn't - but that it may not be necessary. Here's an article (canoeacrosscanada.ca/paddle-down-the-trent-severn-waterway) about a trip in Canada where people sometimes used the locks and sometimes portaged around them. If you set off planning to portage around them all, and then were able to go through a few, that would probably be a pleasant surprise. It's more the money/hassle that would keep me from doing it than any difficulty - going through a lock isn't difficult at all no matter how your boat is powered.
