comment V-threads (Abalakov): How many holes are too many?
As a side note, it's reasonable to prepare your v-thread before the last man goes so that somebody does test it having a good ice screw backup. Also you shouldn't get any big falls while rappelling (except if you are starting with your anchor below you, which is very dangerous).

comment How can I vet a hiking partner without potential hard feelings?
Imo, running or a tennis match are not very good options compared to a day hike. These activities require no constructive interaction between the partners and won't indicate any problems besides general fitness. Maybe a session in a climbing gym will be better?

comment At what point do I need snow goggles or glacier glasses when hiking?
@senarvi, thanks for the comment, but the article lacks references and also doesn't clarify what's "high up in the mountains" - is it 2000 m or 6000 m, and also how much time a day they assume you spend among snow. I don't have a reference to reliable experimental data either - just the anecdotical knowledge of our mountaineering club. It says that factor 3 is ok up to say 3000 m, but higher up you'd better get 4. They cost almost the same anyway.

comment How to get a top-mount cooking burner for 20 lb propane tank?
Maybe they don't offer these because top-mount burners are less safe and you really don't want an accident with a 20 lb tank.

comment Is a tarp necessary if you have a tent with a rainfly and a footprint?
Often your tent gets wet due to night rain or dew, but the day itself is dry/sunny. Than if you wake up late, you can dry the tent just by letting it stay a bit longer. If you wake up early, dry it during your lunch - just unpack and spread it under the sun.

comment How to carry water in freezing temperatures?
I've been to many places but never met a place with such a weather. Well, it's never too late to learn, and you have answered my "why" question. But please let me leave my answer here for the googlers living in less harsh conditions.

comment How do I fold in / tidy up the straps on my rucksack?
Still most bags are alike, so someone could answer this in a generic way - concerning any straps and any bags.

comment What do I do if I lose my belay plate?
Sorry, mentioned it in the image description, but it looks like this info in not displayed in the title of the image as I expected. Edited the post to provide reference.
