What are some toilet paper alternatives you could use in the woods? Learn your poison ivy/oak/sumac and make damn sure there's none around where you gather anything. |

If I cross paths with a bear, what should I do? @studiohack I think that ought to be "what precautions should I have taken" |

If I cross paths with a bear, what should I do? Run the hell away. But remember, you don't have to outrun the bear, just the guy next to you. |

Which will keep my food colder longer, draining the melted ice water, or leaving it in the cooler? Interesting point about the water melting the remaining ice. It might be the case that draining as it melts is better, but once it's all melted I think my post about keeping the water would apply. It would be good if someone would perform a test on this (maybe someone should suggest it to Mythbusters). |

How do I tie a double fisherman's knot? @JayBazuzi You can just use a sheet bend, it's essentially the same as a bowline except what would be the loop is separate ends. |

How do I tie a bowline knot? To prevent slipping, you can make a couple half-hitches with the tail. |

How can I rescue someone lost in an avalanche? Emphasis on the first point. A rescuer's first and most important responsibility is to him- or herself. If a rescuer is injured, that's not only a hand down, it's another victim that needs attention. |

How do I set a top rope anchor? There are general rules, but this depends a fair bit on what is around. |

How can I stay warm in subzero weather? I agree with @Lagerbaer, this one is how to prepare for cold weather, that one was about how to deal if it surprises you. |

What is the most efficient food to take a for a 12-15 day hiking trip? On one canoeing trip, we took a few summer sausages. An inch-thick slice will keep you going quite a while, and they aren't likely to go bad. |
