A guy who is into a little bit of everything...music (listening and making it), photography, DIY, technology, the outdoors (hiking, backpacking, climbing...), and trying to live by grace through faith. I also currently work at a high adventure camp in the Southeast where I also do a little bit of everything...

comment Would 4mil polyethylene plastic make a good tarp tent? Clear Plastic Tarp?
Is the cost the only reason you're considering this idea? If so, then I think for just a little more money you could get a general purpose utility tarp and that would be far more durable. This kind of plastic wouldn't last more than a couple nights, that is, if it would even make it through one night without ripping or getting a hole in it somewhere.

comment How to dry wet shoes quickly?
I second this. One of the trails I frequent in the summer has almost 30 stream/river crossings in about 7 miles. It's not worth it to change shoes that many times so I use trail runners that drain easily instead of boots. And merino socks are essential. Never had any blisters this way either.

Well I just bought some trekking poles so maybe I will be able to answer my own question in a few months.

comment Scarpa Manta - what size
Hey Jonathan welcome to The Great Outdoors! This type of question is not exactly meant for this site, so you're not going to have much luck here. It's too localized to a specific brand and model and could be considered a shopping question. If you haven't already done so, please check out this page about what types of questions to avoid, and conversely this page about how to ask good questions.

comment Learning to fall when leading: what is good fall technique?
I like this. As a friend of mine would say, "Take out the trash!" Mentally, clear your mind and stop thinking about it and just do it. Make the move and don't worry about falling. Stay loose and stay relaxed.

comment How to get started on canyoning?
@BenCrowell - Yeah, what Paul said. This is designed to cover the variations in terms that may be used to describe the same things. That's why I created both tags as I mentioned earlier.

comment Group Trips: 1 Large cook group or smaller cook groups of 3 or 4?
Great answer! And 25 people in one group in the backcountry?! Man that would stress me out. I like for them to stay under 10 myself.

comment What should I do for a dislocated shoulder?
@Liam - Hey I started a meta about this question, if you're interested in contributing your perspective. It seems we need to establish some type of precedent on TGO regarding medical questions more than what we seem to currently have.

comment How to get started on canyoning?
@BenCrowell - Well I was going to go ahead and create the synonym in the tags when I edited the wiki but it wouldn't allow it since the tags were under the limit still. My reasoning was to create both because, for example, hiking and trekking are the same thing but are different tags for the variations in English dialects. If there's a better way than what I did then feel free to fix it. That was my first tag creation,...so yeah I might've done it incorrectly.
