comment Why might one need a 2000 lumen headlamp?
A headlamp is just a flashlight on your head. What don't you understand?

comment Guidelines for safe use of ATC Nano?
Try and find unwaxed (regular?) floss, the wax is known to increase the mechanical advantage, making it difficult to rappel with confidence. 550 cord works well too but it's hard to find long strands so you may need to glue multiple strands together.

comment Should the cloth part of ski gloves be treated before use?
I don't think you can generalize all ski gloves like this. Maybe a particular brand or material, but not 'ski gloves.'

comment Quality/robustness of avalanche shovels
I'm saying that if you are buried, someone else will have to dig you out. One of my instructors once said something to the effect of "buy a good shovel, and always give it to someone else in your group to use for the day."

comment Why are death percentages of death from trauma in an avalanche so different between USA, Europe, and Canada?
There could certainly be something to that, the risk culture in North America could have an effect. But this question and my answer pertain to the manner in which the victims die, not simply how many die.
