comment Urbex question: How to protect myself from asbestos?
I've entered buildings like that, if you avoid making or inhaling dust, I believe the risks are minimal.

comment Flashlight or headlamp for night hiking?
I think you should go try out a modern, quality brand headlight. Reading your conclusions, I can't believe you have done so already.

comment Flashlight or headlamp for night hiking?
I travel with 2 headlamps(1 on my head & 1 spare) and a beam flashlight attached to my belt. Yet if there's sufficient mood/start light i'll use neither. Modern led lights are very reasonable in weight, yet have a strong output. Having a strong(!) headlight or flashlight is also better to attract help over long distances in case of emergencies.

comment Trekking solo in Western Ghats, India
what are you interested in, safety ? doability ? other risks ? a more specific questions will result in better answers. And consider breaking this up into two separate questions.

comment Does packing boots with newspaper make them dry faster?
In order to re-use the rice (the next day), how do you get dry out the rice (while hiking) ?

comment Should I expect reptiles in Southwest USA deserts in winter?
Ok, I was somewhat looking for a more specific answer for that region and time, have updated my question more explicitly. First few hours after sunrise I'm still expecting quite cold temperatures <10°C there.

comment What are the first aid precautions to be taken in case of a snake bite?
just as a side remark: king cobras should probably not be feared, they are very intelligent and seldom attack as far as i've read. Also, snakes are less common than one images. I've also trekked in the monsoon in India, activly searching for wildlife, and barely saw any snakes.

comment What practical issues do I need to be aware of when hiking or camping on my own?
I already practise setting up a tent on my own before I buy it at the shop. If I can't do that in <5 minutes in a shop, I wouldn't want to do it in bad weather conditions outdoors.

Ken, try not to refer to answers by their position, answers move up/down based on the votes.

comment How do you wash your water repellent apparel (DWR)?
I agree that that extend of moderation shouldn't have happend - should be nothing bad about discussing specific brands or products. Dowwie, do know stackexchange sites are community moderated, and discussion around that is encouraged.

comment Is emergency overnighting using hammock/canvas tent considered wild camping (Europe/Germany)?
Not really an answer if you're looking for exact info .. but i would not worry about this at all. I intentionally wildcamp in europe lots of times(including Germany), and have never been fined, and only noticed a very few times. Nor have I ever heared of anyone getting fined for single night wild camping somewhere.

comment Hiking in the Pyrenees late July/early August, what track should I do?
I have done Torla to the top of Mnt. Perdido and back to Torla in 3 days without much hiking experience. One of the best hikes i have done so far and would recommend so. Try teaming up with some people (you'll meet on the way) for the ascent to the top of Mnt Perdido for safety though, but it can be done without much extra perparation. You can take the mountain side one way, and return through the canyon, or the other way around. Up high it may snow during the night, so be careful where to camp.

comment For fording cold rivers, is there any special clothing (as opposed to makeshift bags or tightly connected raintrousers) to stay dry and warm?
This may sound ridiculous, but what about a lightweight inflatable boat of some sorts ?

comment Precautions needed to be taken regarding bee hives (honey) during Climbs
In addition to the stings, they can have different types of venom which you or anyone in your group may be allergic to without knowing so. One can react more, less or not at all depending on the type and amount of venom.

comment Precautions needed to be taken regarding bee hives (honey) during Climbs
Agressive nature depends a lot of the species involved (and whether they are solidary or live in groups), while some may only attack if you hit at them, or try to hold them in your hand, others will already attack if you come within a distance of the nest. Unless you can positively identify a specie as harmless I would agree it is better to avoid any bee/wasp hive as soon as you become aware of it.
