Can body-to-body rewarming be used as a last resort treatment of hypothermia? I'm curious about this too. If a person was so cold they were unable to swallow and you had inadequate supplies for alternate rewarming methods, would it be best to just remove upper clothing, thus restricting skin contact to torso-to-torso? |

Is it ever safe to let a hypothermic person sleep? In the scenario I described above, would it have been best to try to walk the 10 miles to the road that night to keep his metabolism up, or stay & keep warm till light? It was a rugged mountain path maybe icy in spots, freezing, & bone-chilling wind. We only had one flashlight. On the other we needed help asap. |

Can body-to-body rewarming be used as a last resort treatment of hypothermia? Well I was unclear myself whether he meant the rescuer or the rescuee, but in any case I've heard that if heat is applied to the skin of a hypothermic person, there's danger of cold blood from the extremities being pumped back to their heart. Is this correct, and if so, should contact with their extremities by avoided? |

Can body-to-body rewarming be used as a last resort treatment of hypothermia? Thank you for the info. It is very useful to know. Just a couple other questions - I understand based on what you said that it’s highly unlikely it would ever come down to this, but if body-to-body stabilization seems the only option, should it be skin-to-skin, or can thin layers of clothing be left on? Also, as Olin Lathrop said, there is danger of toxins from the extremities causing damage, so if you’re forced to use this method, should care be taken not to come into contact with the hypothermic person’s extremities? |

Can body-to-body rewarming be used as a last resort treatment of hypothermia? Conscious, but reduced shivering and beginning to act irrationally - I guess severe hypothermia? |
