comment Is it possible to put a kayak in the water in Berlin and reach the Baltic via lakes and rivers?
what do you mean by minimal portage? If there's no way to go from a to b you'll need to portage from A to B which thus is the minimum.

@shawty but how does one find dry rocks except your in a dry area? Rocks in a forest or in the mountains will most likely be damp

i wouldn't recommend this, as the stones you'll find will most likely crack up/explode. In an emergency as a last resort yes, but i'd definitely wouldn't use this as best practice. Worst case is that the stone cools down and cracks in the process, have fun with all those hot rocks in your tent.

i'll post as a comment to tell you how to not do it, i turned on my stove in my tent to heat it up in winter, but one day my tent catched fire and consequently it burned all of the stuff inside. So my tip, don't heat it with your stove

comment Why is it unsafe to handle metallic equipment with bare hand at higher altitude?
Not sure if at -70 degrees this will not get you more stuck to the surface, will not try it out

@JimBeam - By Private Motorized Transport (Car, Motorcycle) including Traffic 40-50minutes, by public transportiation 45minutes (and alot of people), by kajak (4min motorcycle, 15minutes kajak) +10 for putting it in the water and taking it out. This makes a total of 29minutes. So i'd say it gives me alot of time i can let my mind loose, i guess that's a good thing.

comment Knee pain when descending a mountain
@WedaPashi let it be said this is a last resort, but if you descend backwards you can ease the pain from walking downhill as the forces are different from walking forwards. If you have something like a trail i think the risk is calculatable, if you however have no trail i would choose to rest for a night.

In the worst case where you don't have painkillers or a better trail, walk carefully backwards.

comment What to consider when buying fins for recreational snorkeling?
+1 but i'd add that you have to take in account, that your feet won't get sore, this ruined my holidays once. Since that time i recommend neopren shoes and fins with straps because this won't kill your feet as quickly

comment How to preserve cheese while backpacking?
Well the technique depends on the lenght of the trip, if you go for a daytrip you're fine by putting it in a ziplock, if you're out there for several weeks and you want to enjoy your cheese on the top of an uncharted mountain, that's a whole other story

@manoftheson this is a good option for a toy, but depending on the material, this can destroy your equipment.

comment Orienteering skill organized trainings in Germany?
i think your best practice is to ask them, sure they need something to make a competition that's the speed part, but i'm sure they are able to help you out, just ask them nicely

comment Trekking poles on planes
First instance is the security staff, if they let you past the checkpoint it's up to the Pilot, for example if you take a guitar to the airplane, and you don't want to check your precious as luggage, you need to buy a ticket for that instrument. If anyone questions the passenger (in this example the guitar, but it could be a drunken guy aswell) the pilot has the last word.

I have a recommendation for an edit, you suggest china markers or grease pencils, i cannot agree. If you fix a inflatable toy, that may be ok, but if you have a inflatable raft or something which essentially carries your life. NEVER use greasepencils/chinamarkes, because these leave grease on the surface which can cause failure of your repair. otherwise nice answer
