-1: The square knot is unsafe for use as a bend (to make two ropes act like a longer one), especially if the rope sizes are different. It can easily capsize in to a cow hitch, and come loose. It can easily jam when you want to untie it.

"How to make fire in the wilderness" is a topic broad enough for many books. Can you narrow it down? Like "What equipment smaller than X should I bring to start a fire in this situation?" Or "what foraged materials make good kindling in my situation?"
