comment When should you use gear to climb a tree?
@BenCrowell: I wish I could award you a bounty for Fear tends to go away with familiarity and repetition; danger doesn't. This is why people take avalanche courses and then go out and get killed by avalanches -- familiarity makes them think it's safe Very well said!

Thanks for the data about length of the rope that I may need. Example with your waist size does help with less efforts in trials. Thanks :-)

comment How to detect a crevasse on a glacier
Oh, that sounds good. If you focus the part that you are going to add up, specifically for detecting a crevasse, that would be really helpful. Knowing about the type of crevasses is a bi-product unless you don't steer it in the direction of where to expect a crevasse

Good points about shadows/shaped to be observed. +1, when you fall into it when you cannot see it

comment How to wash a foam helmet?
@requiem: Surprisingly it has a harder core adhered to the outer hard-fiber casing. And, an inner softer foam that sits between head and the harder inner core.

comment How to walk as a roped party on a glacier?
Good answer mate +1, very valid point about walking perpendicular to the crevasse and not the parallel

comment How can I conserve water over long treks?
Good point about stashing, +1 for that. Just one concern: Over a long trek, its kinda bit odd to memorize the exact location of the water bottle stashed. Though making marks that won't mean anything to other people, or may be marking the coordinate on your GPS/tracker application (if you are carrying), or a picture might be helpful. Sounds good. Nonetheless, glad to see you back in here at TGO buddy!
