@BenCrowell: You need to be worried about it collapsing, but with the right method and adequate efforts you can actually make something that can you survive a night up there. Though, your point about suitability of the condition is very valid. But, again, the thought of an emergency shelter will naturally be one'e mind in extreme conditions only.

@sixtyfootersdude: Yeah, thats true, and I didn't think about it. But, then, IMHO, you could afford to let a cat mark a its territory instead inviting a bear over meals or a raccoon for digging job!
