comment How long does water need to be boiled for to kill all bacteria / viruses?
I think we need some scholarly references here, because the Wilderness Medicine Institute also says to bring water just to a boil to be safe. It is conflicting, so I think we need better sources to answer this question accurately.

comment How is “pack weight” measured
Ultralighters get very particular about these details and how they are measured. After all, if you're going to be cutting the end off your toothbrush and drying out pieces of toothpaste to store in baggies, you're probably going to need some obsessive traits to help you through...

comment What clothing would be appropriate for hiking in -18°C with up to 30 km/hr wind?
Generally true, Russell. I'm sort of splitting hairs. However, if it is -40 degrees outside, and there is no wind or wetness, you still could get injured. According to the army reference sheet I linked to, you could get frostbite on exposed skin within 45 minutes. Even a slight breeze would amplify that. Pretty rare, of course, so for all practical purposes you're absolutely right.

comment Raw meat on hikes
Just thought I'd add a cautionary note about sous vide with ziplocks. I've seen a lot of criticism of boiling ziplock bags due to the plastic releasing chemicals. I haven't seen anything definitive, but look into it and be careful.

comment What happens to cams after climbing?
There are good answers below. I'd add that I have certainly had to leave gear on a wall in desperate situations, or when the cams get stuck.

comment What are the most important indicators of an high-risk avalanche zone?
Be aware that snow settling (making that "whumphing" sound) doesn't always indicate a dangerous avy zone, but a dangerous avy condition in general. Whumphs can be seen/heard long before you are anywhere near avy terrain.

Is it appropriate to edit someone else's answer to build it up? I think I could add some detail and polish to this one, which is already a good start.

comment How to stay clean on a multi-day hike?
These are probably what I'd write also. I can't use alcohol because my skin is very dry to begin with, and this seems to make it worse. Personally I use baby wipes with a dash of hot water. Helps the smell, and for a short trip I don't mind the ounces. I second the Dr. Bronners, too.
