comment Would the Red Wing Irish Setter work for Philmont?
I have backpacked Philmont back in '97 but I do not imagine many other users here know what it is. You might want to add some basic information on the area (Sangre de Cristo Mountains in New Mexico). I also cannot speak to those boots since I am not familiar with them. You do need some good boots that are properly broken in!

comment How to harden feet to avoid blisters on long hikes
+1 Thanks Dara, items 2-6 are what I was taught growing up and using 2-4 are the only reasons I can enjoy backpacking. I have been trying toe socks and I'm neutral on them so far. I have used second skin before and it worked well, but it is only a temporary solution. Taping works but brings a whole new set of annoyances.

comment Pressing the knee while ascending
not sure if it is healthy or not, but I can confirm that some long-distance trail runners do this during ascents not steep enough to grab something else. The difference there may be they don't have a heavy pack on their backs. Without my poles or at least a walking stick I think I would go home, knees can't take it anymore.

comment Bag technique for washing clothes while backpacking?
@Jeredepp - I have no problem with mentioning products. I think grabbing marketing pictures of a product is a bit much but if other people are ok with it I won't vote to close or anything. I do think this Q&A handled product references well: outdoors.stackexchange.com/questions/40/…

I think you need to remove any product information altogether to find the standard, you have a lot of marketing info still

comment Stove/fuel setup for harsh conditions
I also voted to close. Temperature and wind factor are well considered in the first link you posted. If you mean only the level of oxygen available because of the altitude and how that affects various stoves maybe an edit will take care of things.

comment How can I survive multiple days in cold environment?
I think to get a definitive answer to your question we need to determine how long of a time you mean by surviving. Do you need to survive overnight, survive for 2-3 days, or live semi-permanently in a cold environment?
