Does camping in polar bear country require someone to keep guard during the night? Surely that'd be "if attacked by a bear", unless bear attack is mandatory for entry ? |

New Zealand recommended hiking maps, books and other resources I'm guessing that's auckland ? huntingandfishing.co.nz/index.php/pi_pageid/28 should sort you out, that's where we get our maps from, allbeit in wellington. |

New Zealand recommended hiking maps, books and other resources topomap.co.nz should get you started as far as maps go. Wherever you go, popping into a hunting / fishing store or similar you'll pick maps up easy enough when you arrive. |

How do I identify dangerous, marshy land? Not an answer per se, but if you have even the slightest indication that the area ahead may be low lying and boggy, keep near to a fence. This has probably saved my life at least once when it turned out the route ahead (already in a boggy area) was actually a small river entirely covered by overgrowth. The fence I ended up using to drag myself out was setup straight across it. |

What's the difference between white gas, propane, kerosene, and gasoline? one more disadvantage, its hard / impossible to see the flame. Be careful ! |

What's the difference between white gas, propane, kerosene, and gasoline? butane and propane/butane mixtures might also be good to discuss. |

What are good knots to know for camping and backpacking? should really add that the bowline will not slip under load. If you're bouncing about on it or if the load comes and goes, it can and will slip. - back it up with a second knot in these circumstances. |

What's the UPF of a T-Shirt or jeans? not really. I didn't write the content of the link, so i'm in no position to expand upon it. It took about 5 seconds on google to find though, so with any amount of effort similar info could be obtained by anyone interested. |

Is it better to wear one pair or two pairs of socks while hiking? I've always had two pairs, and never even known why. Thanks for this info ! |
