Magnetic deviation at either pole The accuracy of specific compass might vary depending on where you are because of the balance of the needle. |

Is a varied diet necessary while backpacking? Interesting with the nuts: I've always been recommended to bring nuts on trips (mountain and sea/river) because they help feel sated. Is that only half the story? |

Is it possible to sunburn through clothing? A pro-tip is to look at a lamp through the clothing: the less light goes through the better the protection. |

Can I use a bicycle helmet as a climbing helmet? I'd say it's a rather sound argument and well reasoned. |

Under which conditions are weather forecasts reliable? A little trick for the checking the weather predictability remotely: Find two or more forecast sources for the same area and compare the results - the bigger the differences, the less sure you can be about the weather. Of course, you need to be sure the sources are different. |

Does wash in waterproofing work on a non-waterproof shell? I've had experience with reproofing, but that was only with an already waterproof jacket |

Do I need to worry about feral dogs or even wolves if I camp in random areas while hitchhiking in Georgia (the country)? I live in Bulgaria and here feral dogs are only an issue in populated areas. I've been told to watch out for wolves in the country, but I don't know much about where. |

Taking care of hiking backpack I'm not sure I really agree that zippers are easy to replace on backpacks, at least not the ones I got. |

How to get more information about a planned tour? Could someone come up with a better title? The current is far too unspecific. I'd like to do it myself, but I can't come up with something good. |

Tent and sleeping bag: pack inside or strap outside a backpack? Also, having the tent parts separate in the backpack might help on the space. |

Kilimanjaro expedition - trousers - softshell vs. gore-tex From what I've heard soft-shells almost always trump Gore-Tex in breathing ability - after all, they don't need to be as waterproof. However, I've got no experience so I won't give an answer. |

How do I wash Gore-Tex clothing? @Dangeranger: I can't remember the brand, but one reproofer I used actually recommended tumble drying. I consulted my local shop and some friends and they confirmed that for reproofing Gore-Tex can be dried in a tumble drier (However, only with the right reproofer). The results were good and the jacket still works. |

How do I wash Gore-Tex clothing? I've had pretty good experience washing my jacket (hard-shell, GT Pro Shell). I can't remember the brand and it wasn't exactly like new, but it could feel and see the difference. |

Magnetic deviation at either pole I've edited to question so it doesn't mention "accuracy." I'm mostly interested in knowing the effects of magnetic deviation at the Southern Pole - but any helpful information would be helpful too. |
