comment Should I be more careful about postholing during winter hikes?
Injury is also a big concern. Not be able to finish the hike in a timely manner can be a serious issue specialy if injured

comment Should I be more careful about postholing during winter hikes?
It will definitely slow you down and this is not a minor issue. To quantify, a person can expect advancing at 5km/h when hiking. This speed will drop at 2.5km/h when snowshoeing. Without snowshoes, this speed is probably much less.

comment Are there any exceptions to the layer principle?
+ 1 : I also like the concept of layering when I am not too sure about the condition. One layer can be easily removed if too warm.

comment What is the true risk of suffocation from different combustion sources in a tent? (CO2, CO)
I will be curious to know what is the average amount of Co2 produced by a stove vs the average amount of co2 generated by human breathing. My guess would be that stove will win but I heard of people suffocate in closed cars while sleeping.

comment Jerky or Freeze-dried food : Is the salt they contain a concern?
Interesting but I would say that "adding the proper amount of water" is not always enough. Some of the dehydrated foods that I bought contained more than 75% of the daily salt amount required. This is too much for one meal.
