How effective are portable electric fences? I thought those were tripwire systems that set off bear bangers or similar pyrotechnics? They don't deliver an electric shock to the bear...? |

How should I remove a tick? @Vorac - I believe it's to do with the Tick's feeding cycle. I can't find a definite reference, but I think the risk of disease xfer goes up once they start feeding, and this is typically around 24 hours after you get bitten. Of course, you likely won't know exactly when you got bitten, so soonest is best. |

What gear for sleeping in wild camping in western Scotland in May? @MattiSG, as long as you're flexible in your plans you'll be fine. Plan B might have to be this, though: tiroran.com |

What gear for sleeping in wild camping in western Scotland in May? @Rory: True - I did a Winter Skills course based in Ft Bill in early March, and the white stuff was in perilously short supply. (But Wales was bad, too...). As for camping on top of Ben More: Why not? ;-) |

Are carabiners useful tools to have in the wilderness? If so, what would they be used for? ... pose value?? |
