What should I replace guylines with? I really like the reflective markers. I have never seen those before and I think I will pick some up and try them out. I accepted Rory's answer because that's what I ended up replacing the guylines with. |

Surviving a forest fire I couldn't find the article that talked about it or I'd post an answer. But back in the rodeo-chediski fire I remember reading an article about a seasoned forest fighter with about 11 rookies and the winds changed. They all ran but he stopped in a field and started a fire in the field. He tried to explain what he was going and 4 of the rookies stopped to help and the rest kept running. The 5 of them were able to hid in the burn area under some kind of emergency blankets and survive. All went to the ICU but the other 7 weren't so lucky. |

What are good knots to know for camping and backpacking? @JayBazuzi I kinda agree, except when you use a bowline to join two pieces of rope (like a square knot is used) it's called a sheep's bend (turn the sheep's bend over after tying and tell me it's not a bowline). |

Making own Hammock Entirely weave. Nothing but paracord and probably two rings to use as anchors. |

How do I remove mildew from a tent? I have used a similar solution, I also apply a waterproof coating after it's dry, mostly because I water proof my tents once a year anyway. |

What does it mean to cross load a carabiner? It's worth noting that using a carabiner on your harness and looping the carabiner through 2 straps on the harness (instead of using the webbing loop that holds those 2 loops together) and connecting the other end to a piece of gear like an ATC or something will create the same tri-axial pull. This is a common mistake I see all the time even in veteran climbers. |
