comment What are good knots to know for camping and backpacking?
@JayBazuzi I kinda agree, except when you use a bowline to join two pieces of rope (like a square knot is used) it's called a sheep's bend (turn the sheep's bend over after tying and tell me it's not a bowline).

Entirely weave. Nothing but paracord and probably two rings to use as anchors.

comment How do I remove mildew from a tent?
I have used a similar solution, I also apply a waterproof coating after it's dry, mostly because I water proof my tents once a year anyway.

comment What does it mean to cross load a carabiner?
It's worth noting that using a carabiner on your harness and looping the carabiner through 2 straps on the harness (instead of using the webbing loop that holds those 2 loops together) and connecting the other end to a piece of gear like an ATC or something will create the same tri-axial pull. This is a common mistake I see all the time even in veteran climbers.

comment Which knot for climbing: figure eight, yosemite bowline, bowline on a bight?
The only arguments I have ever heard for the yosemite Bowline are from an "engineering" stance. But the ease of (tying and checking) the 8 make it the choice of most climbers. I agree with you.

comment Which knot for climbing: figure eight, yosemite bowline, bowline on a bight?
@Mr.Wizard that is a double. You can't (safely) use a single for climbing. Only a double, be it a figure 8 follow through into a harness loop or you could use a figure eight on a bight to a carabiner. Either knot is the same once tied though. Both are pretty easy to untie once you know how. If no one ever took the 30 second to show you the trick to untie them it can be very difficult.
