@LBell I think it belongs here if the question about the walks is removed. The walks are guided tours, but the other questions are about specific recreation locations and I think they would be appropriate.

Good advice, and welcome to The Great Outdoors S.E.! though I laugh to myself a bit thinking of his wife trying to enjoy the trip with her nose in the floor. But if it works, it works.

@furtive Added. Yeah some do and some don't, but rigging something together never bothered me.

We usually burn them as well. But at the end of the night once everyone has left for bed. I can smell it burning and think it's pretty bad. To store them, we wrap and twist them in grocery store produce bags. One of the stores near us has some special kind of bag that helps seal everything in. We re-use those.

@baldric Yeah the bigger Kelty packs work fine for that age. Definitely try on a few if you can.

comment What do you do if the fire does get “out of control”?
It's worth mentioning, since you mentioned shovels, when digging a line for the fire, always push in or toss the dirt you dig up in to the fire. Yes this will give it some grass to burn and some dirt to smother, but it will reduce your risk of embers being outside and the fire jumping the line you made.
