How should I remove a tick? "It's vital to get them off ASAP" could you please provide a reasoning behind this? |

How does one dry clothes in humid weather? +1 The body heat dries up clothes pretty good. What do I do with my wet clothes? - wear them. The only downside is that you are getting arthritis, but hey, who lives forever :D |

A list of suitable foods for a long hike I have no idea how could the environment affect the food choice. My only clue is that in hotter climates chosen foods should be extremely resilient to spoiling. Could you please tell me more? |

What practical issues do I need to be aware of when hiking or camping on my own? There were some blueberries. Saver, and are very tasty. And I was without water because I left my last water "just for a minute" in the grass. |

How can you navigate without a compass or GPS +1 for "Stop periodically and look back". This was one of two things they told us about caves - the other was, of course, carry a spare flashlight. |

How can you navigate without a compass or GPS Carry a clock or carry immagination ;P I carry an analog clock. I point the hour arrow at the sun and know south is approximately to the middle of that and 12o'clock. There are many factors to consider if one is to estimate the accuracy of this method. |

Folding versus fixed blade knives Are you talking about speed of arming or about ease of doing so e.g. in a confined/underwater/chaotic situation? I'm pretty sure a folding blade can be opened quite as fast as a fixed blade. On the other hand I agree that in taking out a fixed blade knife there are less things that can go wrong. |

Why do some knives have one-sided sharpening? Thanks. If I understand correctly, chisel edge on most non-japanese knives is there to make the blade look more exotic and appealing, instead for a practical reason, contributing to cutting. Is that so, or I have lost you somewhere? |
