comment What are some mortal dangers in temperate woods?
Olin, I find your answer highly sensible, practical and down to Earth. In a context of bushkraft and mountaineering, it would be far more useful than the wiki answer. I, however, accept the wiki answer, as I need this information(a bunch of ideas, actually) for a game.

comment What clothing would be appropriate for hiking in -18°C with up to 30 km/hr wind?
I think rubber boots are very bad choice for long hikes anywhere. My experience: after 4 hours in the snow, my feet were wet. Temperature - around zero. Socks - single layer of thick wool socks.

comment Is buying an expensive sleeping bag better?
I had a similar experience like you once. I believe at the morning I had first degree frostbite on the toes and fingers (and frost on the sleeping bag, 10C in the day drops below zero at dawn). Those $10 bags are for the beech.

comment How do you fashion a spear with a fixed blade
I concur. BTW it is strange how many videos and web pages are out there, detailing in length how you should sharpen a stick. lol

comment How to set up a tent in deep snow
Unfortunately I will not be able to accept and answer before snow falls and I go try it, to see if lying on the snow is colder than lying on cold ground.

comment Cooking over a fire
I was told no fire is good for cooking - always use the embers for cooking. I do not follow this advice, but agree that food gets more tasty that way. Also +1, great question!

comment Do I need to worry about snow covering up my tent?
I have heard warnings that snow may pile up and brake the poles that hold the tent. Is this the significant risk, or is it silent suffocation?
