comment What are the proper precautions/protocols for storing food while car camping in an area with bears?
You may want to consider hanging it is in direct contradiction to these answers. Do you simply disagree, or are the circumstances different?

comment If I'm caught in lightning above tree-line, what should I do?
In the Swiss Alps, I once saw a group of sheep who, in the middle of a thunderstorm, all huddled together in the middle of a large, flat field of snow. It seems evolution needs some more generations to teach sheep the BSA advice.

@IlmariKaronen Ah, true, but it's nice in October when everything is frozen ;-)

Still you'd see only a small part of the sky... for the best experience I'd get out completely in any case.

The best place is on a thick layer of deliciously soft tundra moss!

But you lose the sight of the stars. Does your tent have a transparent roof? When I'm in the tent I anyway have no view of the stars, or at best a very limited view. When I was camping in desert mountains (California White Mountains) I crawled out of my tent at 2:00 for my stargazing.

comment How do I determine if a tent can handle strong wind?
I see the Terra Nova 1-person ultralight tents go from £330.00 to a wopping £800.00. Although not asking for product recommendation, I wonder, which one did you get?

comment How do I determine if a tent can handle strong wind?
@Avestron Although product recommendations are off-topic, I can add that I'm looking for a freestanding solo "full" double-walled tent ("full" as in, doesn't rely on trekking poles or so). In combination with that is available through my local store (offers generous return policies) I came to the shortlist listed in the question.

@Avestron I didn't find any wind-related comments by any review. But there should be some predictors based on shape, material, mass, and other characteristics. Some models are quite new.

comment How are backcountry campground reservations enforced?
Hmm, I'm used to make much longer days, I rarely if ever stop before 18:00 and usually continue until 20:00-ish, but then again I could do that /because/ I could camp anywhere (and because there was midnight Sun — once I made a 15 hour / 45 km day where I did start to feel my feet in the end, and once I continued hiking until 01:30). I usually don't really know what to do with my time once I have my camp set up and finished eating etc.
