comment What should you do if you are bitten by a rattlesnake?
The answer is the same for pit vipers, which include rattlesnakes, copperheads, and water moccasins. Bites from these snakes are usually not fatal even without medical attention, and in most (or many?) cases they don't use antivenin because the side effects might be worse than a minor snakebite. Also, sometimes pit vipers bite without injecting much or any venom. (This leads to some invalid claims of being immune to snakebites.)

comment What is the difference between external and internal-frame packs?
One other advantage for an external frame pack is that you can hang stuff off of it everywhere. It's not enough advantage for me to give up the additional comfort of an internal frame, though.

comment How should I remove a tick?
Vaseline may take a day or two to kill the tick. It's better to remove it as soon as possible to reduce the likelihood of disease.

comment I found a Deer Tick on my friend and removed it, what should I do now?
I'm used to giving medical advice like that to my kids. It's odd, they don't trust me either. :-)

comment Are there beaches on the East Coast (US) where one can camp without a permit?
If you go a little farther south you can camp on the beach at the Everglades, and likely have the beach to yourself. Mosquitoes are really bad in the summer. nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/backcamp.htm

comment When stranded at sea, should I not ask for a tow?
This is not true any more. Once people claimed salvage rights if they towed a boat in international waters, but that has since changed.

comment Hiking boots vs trail shoes
I might have to try those. Ordinary running shoes don't have enough side support.

comment How do I take care of Gore-Tex boots?
I'm not sure, but I had a pair of Goretex light hiking boots. I found out the hard way they were no longer waterproof, after 5-6 years of occasional use.

comment What can I do to prevent altitude sickness?
Good answer. I was going to say just about the same thing. Incidentally, I have seen people on diamox have acute altitude sickness after a few days. Maybe it works mostly on the symptoms and is best only for a day or two at altitude?

I think this is a good, separate question.

comment How do I treat hot spots and blisters when I have no moleskin?
+1 for duct tape. It works better than moleskin for me.

comment What do I do to prevent and treat frostbite?
A very good point. This happens to a lot of people.
