Walker, canoeist, sailer, glider pilot, rock climber and father of 3.

Middle son of a polar explorer, and grew up in the wilds of Orkney and the Falklands - so take after my father in outdoors pursuits.

Happy in the middle of mountains or forests in a tent :-)

comment How do you mount ski bindings?
This is a very subjective question. Are you good at diy? Do you have experience working with fine tolerances? Have you a good instruction manual/ tutorial video? If so, you may find it easy. There is always a risk you could damage your skis beyond repair. The decision is really down to you.

I have answered with an expansion - not all rivers and canals count as registered waterways for this purpose.

Mountain Warehouse has a shop there, on the High Street. You can get your chalk there.

comment How to anchor a raft on a river
Of course. Without two you swing, and it can be pretty extreme. OP wanted to avoid movement.

comment How do you stop blood-flow from a leech bite?
sean - neither of your solutions actually work. You need the combination of pressure and a material which doesn't let the blood leak through.
