Walker, canoeist, sailer, glider pilot, rock climber and father of 3.

Middle son of a polar explorer, and grew up in the wilds of Orkney and the Falklands - so take after my father in outdoors pursuits.

Happy in the middle of mountains or forests in a tent :-)

comment Recommendations for two-way radios to use while skiing
Agreed - most cheap walkie-talkies will work line of sight from top to bottom of a mountain. We have used a couple of brands, one expensive, one was a kids toy, and they performed equally well - useful for meeting up etc. Not sure how good they would be in an emergency through snow cover...

Okay - I think it isn't out of reach of folks like me who are in their 40's, a bit overweight and having a sedentary job, to be able to go from normal pullups to fingertip pullups in a matter of a few weeks. But I am not a medical professional - I climb with a few folks who are much fitter than me and try to keep up. You may be absolutely correct. This post was just my experience.

Yep - batteries still leak. Take them out and store them in baggies next to your torches.

Well, I'm a slightly overweight but reasonably fit IT guy. If I can do it, anyone can.

comment When is it too cold for Tarping?
I'm not sure there is, but would be interested to know. Generally I would gauge it on temp, wind speed and humidity/precipitation.
