comment How do I reseal a tent bottom with many pinprick holes
For a two man tent, a groundsheet/footprint surely can't be that heavy?

comment How do I tie a slackline with only carabiners and webbing?
Updated regarding tension - that will be your biggest problem, unless you get a ratchet. Also - metal rings can take the tension, but carabiners may not :-)

In rocky terrain, where there is nothing to peg to, it will save you effort on erecting the tent. You will still need to anchor it somehow. The effort will then be on disassembly.

comment What characteristics should I look for in a good torch/flashlight?
Not an answer, but in addition to the torches we take (ranging from basic ones to multi LED bright ones for those occasions when you really do need brightness) we have also started taking a couple of the hand powered torches for longer trips, just to cope with those occasions all batteries are dead/lost etc

comment Tips for outdoor during the dark winter?
I do agree though, that sometimes you need a bright light, I would just save it for the times your really need it (eg a rapid exit from a dangerous situation etc) and generally let your eyes accustom themselves to dim illumination.

For setting up a tent in the dark you really shouldn't need a bright light. Learn your tent and its parts. Learn the routine you need to use to set up and break camp. Set a routine for where you store items. Then you will be able to get by on very dim light. I have set camp just using starlight once - no problem as I knew where everything was.

Buck Tilton's blog has some really good stuff on it - would recommend it as a source of info!
