Walker, canoeist, sailer, glider pilot, rock climber and father of 3.

Middle son of a polar explorer, and grew up in the wilds of Orkney and the Falklands - so take after my father in outdoors pursuits.

Happy in the middle of mountains or forests in a tent :-)

comment Are nutrition bars/energy bars good for high altitude treks?
Energy drinks won't present a dehydration problem, so I'm not sure why you have included that. And energy bars come in various guises from a dry, trail-mix type through to bars coated in yoghurt or chocolate with soft fruit in the middle, so I think the question may be a bit broad to answer effectively.

comment What is the main purpose of the foam inside a self-inflating mat?
You shouldn't have to inflate them. We have a range of ones for the family, and as long as you lay them out an hour or so before you intend to lie on them they just require that you close the valve. No blowing required.

A bit localised, methinks, both in time and region. I have added the US tag anyway.

This seems an awful lot like spam. I think it would be a better question if you removed all mention of that product
