comment What's the purpose of dog boots?
Of course, if your dog notices that every time the boots come out, adventure follows, they'll happily tolerate them on their feet.

MRE is a good way to ruin your whole trip with how foul they are.

comment A snake glides over a very rough, hard surface with no signs of discomfort…how?
The snake probably only weighs a pound or two at most.

comment Will drinking lots of water in the day(s) prior to a long trek mean I will need less water on the trek?
While I agree with the gist of your answer, citing what happens to Boston Marathon participants, in a competition no less, is in no way a useful representation of the hydration behavior of 'normal' people, or to be used as a guide for anyone other than similar athletic competitors.

comment Why did the wolf-pack withdraw from attacking me?
@BladeRunner: don't be so sure of yourself. Wolves make a living by killing animals that are often much bigger than humans. They can crush the bones in your arm if they get their mouth around it, and they are fast and you'd be lucky to get even one hand on its neck. While you may be able to ultimately prevail, it would by no means be an easy fight and you would almost certainly not come out unscathed if the wolf was going to fight until the end.

comment Camping 3000 miles from home: how best to get our gear to the campsite?
Checking your gear is the way to go, however, don't leave your fuel in your bag, either ship that or buy it at your destination.

comment What are the most frequent crimes perpetrated by people against people in the Great Outdoors?
No data to support this claim, but theft from unattended vehicles in parks probably encompasses 90% of the crimes.

comment Rational reason to pick a bow over a gun?
@Mark: only in hollywood. Just the action of many weapons is noisy, which a silencer can do nothing about.

comment Acclimitization: Would 20 min at an “oxygen bar” deliver more than an ephermal boost to a healthy person?
I went to one of those oxygen bars at a ski resort because we were bored and had money to waste. It was a complete waste of money.

comment Are there any electrically heated winter gloves?
Frankly, "military grade" for a lot of stuff doesn't mean that it's all that great. What gloves are you using?
