comment How to find new poles for old tent?
If you post 'blueprints' of sorts of your specific poles, we may be better able to find places that sell them, or provide solutions to fabricate them yourself. You could cut fiberglass to fabricate new poles with a hacksaw, no problem.

comment Should I be worried about bears when sleeping in a hammock?
I don't want to write this as an answer, but I can't see how a hammock could possibly be any different. It's not like a tent will slow a bear down for more than 5 milliseconds if it wants to see what's in it.

comment What is considered a water source, and why is it recommended to camp so far from them?
Everyone likes camping right by the shore. Invariably, everyone would camp in nearly the same spot, and ultimately trash the place. Dispersing campsites prevents that, to some degree.

comment How should we split up a 3 person tent?
@LBell: If someone in my group is lost or dead, then I've got more important things to deal with than not having a stove.

Yep this is what my friends and I do. One guy has the tent, the other has the food and stove, or some similar arrangement.

comment How do I Plan a Hiking Trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, CO
@JaredChristensen: I do not know any in that area, however I am going to be doing some backpacking in that area in sept, after a wedding, so I can tell you then :)

If you're backpacking, I'd give consideration to avoiding RMNP and looking at the many wilderness areas immediately around it. Wilderness areas are often less busy, often better suited to backpackers, and often cheaper or free, with no designated campsites. Different wilderness areas have different styles of scenery.

is "AT season" just the prime season, or is does it stand for something else entirely?

comment Good “real” fridge for car camping
How big? How do you plan to power it? Cooling demands a lot of energy and if you don't have your engine running at all times you'll need to setup a double-battery system at minimum.

comment What is the ultimate car camping bed solution — for two people?
I have a rei.com/product/780367/exped-synmat-7-air-pad-with-pump and find it to work great both for backpacking and for car camping.

comment Safe Way to Mark a Carabiner
I would not worry about nail polish disturbing the mechanism if used as pictured, especially on a screw-gate. A nail polish layer will be very thin as long as you don't gob it on all over the place, and snapping the carabiner shut a few times will take care of any bumps in the polish.
