What is the best material to make an outdoor shelter roof out of? One note. When you build a debris hut, be careful to pick the lateral sticks of the length so that they just get to the roof branch, not higher. If you pick them too long, you may get a sort of funnel structure, where water may accumulate and then percolate inside. Also, be extremely tight with spaces. Don't leave a lot of room above your body. Any air above is air you have to heat with your body, and therefore lose. |

How do I desalinate seawater? @HorusKol: You burn them, and make a sizable explosion. Hydrogen is dangerous, and the danger arises from particular concentrations, which make it detonate, instead of burning. Also careful with the electrolyzed water. That most likely contains a mixture of bleach and lye. |

Gas or liquid fuel lighter? Indeed I have four backups: lighter, flint, a lens and windproof matches. And of course, standard wood plow. fire and lamps is something I always have multiple backups of. |

Best/safest wood to carve a spoon from? @TimothyStrimple: I find the spork extremely impractical. I have a set of spoon, knife and fork that are extremely light and are bent in a way that they "spoon". They lock together so they don't wander around separate when packed. |

How to safely carry a fixed-blade knife? I always feel uneasy at the idea of carrying around a fixed blade. I think it may get you in trouble with the law if they stop you with one around. I think if you have a well locked foldable is much better legally. |
