I'm an avid programmer, enjoy creating things, enjoy a good puzzle and especially enjoy foxing people with a Java puzzle now and again!

Outside of my coding life, I have a number of other interests, including outdoors activities such as hiking / geocaching / letterboxing. I'm also fond of music - I enjoy listening to it as well as playing the piano and violin.

comment Where can I find information on letterboxing in my area?
@HorusKol It's usually pretty easy to tell when something's a letterbox or not - to start with most of the old style ammo cases have disappeared for that reason, and secondly there are usually quite obvious telltale signs when something has been deliberately hidden and masked with unnatural looking piles of stones. I've letterboxed round Okehampton a couple of times recently and never had any issues, as long as you're sensible I wouldn't be too worried!

comment What is the best way to store my tent?
@HorusKol As long as it's thoroughly cleaned and aired beforehand then I've never had any problems with mine wrapped tight - and it's often in storage that way for almost a year!

comment What things should I look for when buying a compass?
@MatBanik Advanced mainly - accuracy is important to me since a main use is letterboxing on Dartmoor where you need bearings at least to degree accuracy to triangulate your position properly.

comment What things should I look for when buying a compass?
@MatBanik Up to a point, I'm more after the characteristics that make expensive compasses better and in what situations they're worth it over their cheaper counterparts.

comment How do I recognize if someone is suffering from hypothermia?
Also worth pointing out that in the final stages the shivering can stop and the subject can feel too warm and start tearing off clothes - don't assume it's a good sign if shivering stops!
