comment How much warmth dead leaves add if placed under your tent/pad?
I can't give you numbers on temperature, but the bushcraft guru's recommend at least 6 inches of compressed leaf litter.

Also, using small fuel wood to increase the burn rate helps.

comment How to create campfire which will burn overnight?
@OlinLathrop This method does work! I know it seems counter intuitive and looks identical to the fire used to create lots of embers quickly for cooking on (Log Cabin fire). The difference is, this fire is burned from the top down (heat rises) and the other (faster) burning, burns from the bottom up.

comment How can I start a fire by rubbing two sticks together?
An alternative to putting sap on the spindle is to pack a waxy leaf (e.g. holly) into the hole on the bearing block.

comment Can I replace Dish soap?
+1 for stainless steel. Put a lit back on the pot with a little water in it and the steam will usually shift any food remnants. Then use a small bit of pot scourer. Done.

comment Is my tent pole a lightning rod?
The main danger of being near a tree when it's struck is that they explode showering the area in very hot, very hard shrapnel.
