Ideal and Minimal Rope Diameter for Lead Climbing Thanks. I want a 70 or 80 meters one, so 9.8mm will make it a bit heavy (I'm replacing an old 60m/9.8mm). You just made me realize than anything smaller than 9.8 won't be good for my Grigri. So I might have to upgrade to a grigri2 or stay with a thicker rope. |

How to inspect climbing bolts? Yes, even marine quality steel that won't corrode in other environments can't be trusted. It's scary to even think about it, but the guys in Thailand are doing a great job to address this issue. Same at the Cayman islands. |

How do I inspect a climbing rope? What would you consider a major or minor lead fall? I often have about 4-5 meter dynamic falls and have had a few longer ones. Is that considered a major fall and should I retire the rope or is it enough just to cut the ends? |
