Good question - I don't have a definitive answer, though. I'd ask it again as a new question if I were you

comment How can I locate lanes where I can legally drive a 4x4 in the UK?
@Greg.Ley - this is more of an access issue - green-laning is fairly popular outdoor activity in the UK, but there are restrictions on where you can legally partake in the activity.

comment What essential items should go in a small first aid kit?
@Roddy this isn't "current" and it isn't UK-only - and it makes sense - see adverse reactions/complications. Also, "suggesting" to your casualty (or leaving a couple of painkillers on a table for them) is even worse, because when the professionals turn up, you can't tell them categorically what medication they have had. OTOH, a person who is susceptible to a condition (like anaphylaxis, heart problems, asthma, etc) should already have the necessary remedy, and alert other party members to their need and the location of said remedy.

comment Cooking by pouring hot water into plastic bags?
This isn't really any different to how army rations and MRE (meals ready to eat) are packaged and eaten from - if you can find out what material they use, then I'd suggest sourcing bags made from the same stuff.

comment Does any tent manufacturer promise to have replacement parts?
The kind of damage that is being described probably wouldn't be covered by most guarantees - and a guarantee will likely mean the manufacturer replaces your damaged tent rather than particular parts.

comment How do you determine how long a hike will take?
I found a base of 4kph much more accurate - especially on multi-day hikes.

comment How do you determine how long a hike will take?
I'd probably still use Naismith's rule - but at a base speed of about 4kph. I'd also adjust my estimate based on how much longer/shorter my first hour's travel actual took and look at shortening the route, if needed (and possible).

comment What is the best rope to have in a survival situation?
I think in this situation, the actual choice available is limited (at least in general terms of types of rope) so it isn't an unreasonable question.
