@Qwerky - I was answering in a more general sense... there are lots of belay device designs out there, but I agree, in this specific instance, the belay device is symmetric.

I'd be rather timid about opening random boxes on Dartmoor - especially around the Okehampton area. The military regularly conduct live firing exercises (though they are thoughtful and close the ranges to the public on these occasions) - and unexploded ordnance can easily be picked up by the unwary walker...
