If you get a folding blade - get one with a lock. I was using an unlocked blade once, and it folded into my thumb - split my thumb and thumbnail about 1cm from the tip.

thinking about it - I agree that ethanol releases heat slower, I've seen ethanol burners take longer than gas and kerosene. I guess that energy content is not the same as rate of release...

I agree that unbroken boots don't necessarily cause more blisters - but walking in unbroken boots is still pretty uncomfortable, and would suggest wearing them in a bit (usually walking around the house in them) before you start slogging your way up and down hills.
