During my adult life I have spent more nights outdoors than in.

I have served as an outdoor guide, educator, conservationist, researcher, crew leader and enthusiast from the bear-chomps of Alaska to the rock-falls of canyon country.

Currently working at a remote research station deep in the rain forest of Borneo studying primate ecology.

+1 for the anecdotal evidence / first-hand experience - but still looking for a definitive answer.

They work best with direct consistent sunlight - so while hiking is tough. I've strapped panels to my back-pack with some success - but better if you can charge during a "layover" day.

Well I intended it to apply to regions where there are wolves ;) - but have added a slight clarification.

comment Is it warmer to sleep naked in a sleeping bag?
Not entirely true - more layers can reach a point where you are so tightly crammed in the bag your lose the "loft" of your bag and layers, compressing the insulating air out of everything. Remember layers function to trap air.

Not only a good idea, but on some rivers they are legally required.

Wolf attacks? Why do wolves always get a bad wrap? I blame Little Red Riding Hood. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_attacks_on_humans
