During my adult life I have spent more nights outdoors than in.
I have served as an outdoor guide, educator, conservationist, researcher, crew leader and enthusiast from the bear-chomps of Alaska to the rock-falls of canyon country.
Currently working at a remote research station deep in the rain forest of Borneo studying primate ecology.

What's the problem with electrolyte imbalance and how do I mitigate it? Well - as you point out, its various nutrients, not just salt (NaCl) that you need... but even then, my point is, steadily eating trail mix, granola bars, (lunch) throughout the day while drinking water is sufficient. Drinking sports drinks while power hiking through the desert (without eating) is often insufficient since they have relatively low sodium and high sugar. |

Dealing with wildlife in the desert of California/Nevada in general and in the White Mountains in particular 75% of this answer is completely off topic (dealing with hydration and not wildlife) and therefore the balance is "not useful" as it does not pertain to the question -- which is therefore confusing. |

What's the problem with electrolyte imbalance and how do I mitigate it? Yes and no... Eating something salty while drinking water is sufficient. Sports beverages are not necessary (and the verdict is out on them anyway -- lots of excess sugar). |

How should we split up a 3 person tent? @whatsisname True - but I once met 1/2 a party at 'Island Lake' who were hungry... the other 1/2 were (we determined) 3 miles away at '1,000 Island Lake' -- fat but cold. |

Should I re-wax downhill skis after using skins? Interesting... So are the skins removing the wax on the base, or is it leaving stickum behind? I assume the former based on your answer. |

How can I prevent snow-balls building up in my dog's paws? Interesting - 2 years of mushing and I never heard of this technique. But that's why I asked here. Though seems risky. Anyone second this method? (And Welcome) |
