I have served as an outdoor guide, educator, conservationist, researcher, crew leader and enthusiast from the bear-chomps of Alaska to the rock-falls of canyon country.

Material of shirt for Desert hiking @manoftheson About the same in my experience - often the linen is a looser weave allowing for more breatheability but less water retention. There's a reason its popular in tropic areas like India. |

Can I mix fuels when using the MSR whisperlite international stove? I'm reading that white-gas / "Coleman Fuel" is actually Naphtha, which is similar to, but different from unleaded gasoline (beyond just the additives). Both, however, use the same jet on the Whisperlite International. +1 for just use the white gas till it's gone then switch to gasoline. |

How long does mayonnaise last unrefrigerated in the back-country? @OlinLathrop -- Things I've brought backpacking: soda (✓), beer (✓), ice cream on dry ice (✓), avocado (✓), bacon (✓), wine (✓). Sometimes it is the unexpected (or implausible) that makes a trip a great one. Everyone has their opinion of what is "necessary" or a "big deal." But "backpacking" does not necessarily mean "suffering." |
