During my adult life I have spent more nights outdoors than in.

I have served as an outdoor guide, educator, conservationist, researcher, crew leader and enthusiast from the bear-chomps of Alaska to the rock-falls of canyon country.

Currently working at a remote research station deep in the rain forest of Borneo studying primate ecology.

comment Can you keep your feet warm in ski boots on a very cold day?
Seems like the negatives (gooey feet, gunked up and compressed liners/insulation) would make this temporary solution bad news for long-term comfort...

Be aware that wheeled carts, buggies, etc are illegal in Wilderness (with a capital W) areas in the US. outdoors.stackexchange.com/a/3512/86

@Gerrit - The language is sufficiently "gray" to allow for interpretation. Interesting to note that wild animals on federal public lands in the US are regulated by the state game and fish agencies. Thus in some areas there has been fish-stocking in "pristine" Wilderness lakes...

comment Is it safe to use denatured alcohol as an antiseptic?
@manoftheson Even betadine is pretty harsh and can kill as much good tissue as bad. But great to use to clean the area surrounding a wound (not in it).

comment Material of shirt for Desert hiking
@manoftheson About the same in my experience - often the linen is a looser weave allowing for more breatheability but less water retention. There's a reason its popular in tropic areas like India.

comment How can you make a MSR WhisperLite stove simmer?
@felix ...but which sounds like a jet engine taking off. I've tried to love it, but find the noise to be super-disturbing of my quiet wilderness experience.

Accepted. I've done this thousands of times in the back-country without explosion, so I would say your short answer is a bit mis-leading. (Though the warnings are definitely important and valid)
