Does hiking with a dog in bear country increase or decrease your risk of a bear encounter? @RussellSteen: I'll try and make it clearer, but I'm saying for a short outing, it might help, but for an extended stay, I would not recommend it. I've updated the conclusion to be better. |

What pattern for casual planes should a castaway create on a desert island? Oh. The length of the part of the letter to the width of the letter. IE, for the X, you ideally would want something for each line in the X that is 6 feet long, 1 foot wide, roughly. Of course, bigger is better, so... |

What precautions should I take to protect myself and my camp from bears? @Dangeranger: Guess I'm not in quite as dangerous of a bear country. I'll make the appropriate edits. |

What equipment is recommended when camping with a baby? There is nothing wrong with posting a question that is on topic here, that is appropriate somewhere else. There is overlap between sites, and nothing really wrong with that. |

How much water should be carried while hiking in the desert? @LBell: I have run out before, but never more than a mile from the base area. And such times I've always been well hydrated beforehand. |

What do I need to look for in good, quality hiking boots? If you live in a very hot, but dry area, water resistant might not be as required, and might make the shoe too warm. |
