A type of firearm that can fire "shot", shot typically being small ball bearings. Shotguns can also fire "solid slugs", where the "shot" is replaced with a solid projectile. Shot guns typically accept cartridges where the contents of the cartridge (not a part of the cartridge itself) are ejected upon firing.
