Edited to make it sound more about the fun of bird-watching and less like a science question. That was the original purpose.

That was exactly what I asked for, and I respect your opinion. Just to clarify to you and others, I ask for help understanding downvotes on any site, even if it isn't my post, so I wasn't trying to single out TGO or its voting culture.
Oct 31, 2016 at 10:31 | comment | added | imsodin | I did not downvote, but I feel like this question would be much better suited at biology.SE. I do not want to restart a discussion we already had, this is on topic here as it is outdoor related. This is just a guess at the downvote and maybe an idea how to proceed if you don't get a (good) answer here. Also regarding ab2's comment, I feel like there is a huge aversion to downvotes here on TGO. Downvotes are are an important and legitimate tool for SE, there must not be any malicious intent behind it.

Oct 30, 2016 at 22:08 | comment | added | ab2 | +1 on your Q. It doesn't cost anything to downvote a question, in contrast to the 2 rep points it costs to downvote an answer. So someone feeling irritated or powerless can take his pique out on an OP, with anonymity, immunity, and at no cost to himself.
